Courses and Workshops, La Térmica Mini

One-day workshop: October 5, November 9 or December 14, 2024 | 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

€ Prior registration required

This children’s pottery workshop is designed as a creative space, a first approach to pottery, where thanks to being a sensory activity, creativity and imagination are stimulated. We believe that knowledge and experimentation are essential for children, with techniques such as pottery that are developed in space and allow the learning of these skills, also encouraging, at all times, enjoyment and fun during the process.

What will we do during the workshop?

During the workshop, children play with clay and create one or more pieces using the basic shaping techniques we teach them (the pinch technique, the iron technique, or the churros technique). Once they have their pieces made, we move on to the decoration part, where they will be able to practice painting with slips, applying textures and stamps, or sgraffito. With these decorative techniques, they will have all the knowledge to finish personalizing and giving the final touch to their creations. All of this in a welcoming, respectful and free environment, so that all children feel comfortable and can express themselves without fear while enjoying the process.

We structured the workshop in the following way: the first part is dedicated to shaping the clay pieces. Once we have achieved the desired shape, we take a short break to let the pieces dry a little and we take the opportunity to have a drink (there will be water, fruit and biscuits) and continue getting to know each other better. After the short break we get back to work to finish decorating the pieces.

Once the pieces are finished and the workshop comes to an end, we carefully store the pieces to be fired and glazed. In this way, the clay becomes ceramic, making the pieces durable and usable. We return the pieces to La Térmica after a month, where you can pick them up.

In every workshop

  • They know and experiment with the material, creating utilitarian or decorative objects through basic ceramic shaping techniques.
  • They know and apply different types of ceramic decoration.
  • They create ceramic pieces.
  • Children’s self-esteem is encouraged through the creation of objects that they can use in their daily lives.
  • Through the different processes, the development of basic skills such as spatial and volume perception, concentration and creativity is encouraged.

Who is the workshop aimed at?

This workshop is aimed at children between 6 and 12 years old who want to develop their skills, explore their imagination and are not afraid of getting dirty with mud. We therefore recommend that you wear clothes that can get dirty or an apron, since, although the mud is easily cleaned, we will work more comfortably. The group is a maximum of 8 students and the duration of the workshop is 3 hours.

All materials are included in the price of the workshop, so children do not need to bring anything.

candle We are Virginia and Paula, two cousins who, having taken different paths, Paula studied Industrial Design and Virginia Art History, both of them after a long etc. of masters and different work experiences, ended up studying ceramics (Paula at @escueladeartesantelmo and Virginia at @eag_oficial). From there, they decided to create Candeá, a brand under which they create and share their passion for ceramics by offering workshops in the spaces where they are invited to teach them.
