If there’s one band taking the Belgian music world by storm right now, it’s LIGHTSPEED. The promising quartet is no longer a hidden gem, but a rising star with an increasingly impressive track record. He has been voted “promise of the month” at Radio Willy, won the prestigious Lawijt Battle last year and is known as the winner of the East Flanders Sound Track 2023 award. Add to this a well-filled concert program, and you don’t need to have learned to understand that the name of the group was very well chosen. Despite his still young career, he has now released only his fifth single. It’s clear: LIGHTSPEED is unstoppable.
“Society’s Fixation Seeker” opens with an explosion of screeching guitars that immediately grabs the listener’s throat. As soon as singer Rik Bontinck gets his voice heard, the song changes down, creating a dynamic structure. These subdued moments create a hypnotic tension that gradually builds. When the chorus breaks in, it turns into a full-blooded rock anthem that could easily take its place alongside any British indie rock violence. Towards the end, the song goes off the rails with a powerful guitar solo that further adds to the undeniable talent. LIGHTSPEED has clearly spent time on their songs and proves that patience and precision lead to international class.
Guest house will be released later this year. On Friday, November 15, LIGHTSPEED will present the EP at De Casino in Sint-Niklaas.
