Alberto Velasco proposes meeting in a very specific place: in front of the sculpture Woman with mirrorby Fernando Botero, a bronze lady lying as long and wide as she is on an island among the devilish traffic of the Plaza de Colón in Madrid. “Even Botero, an artist who represented fat people, was fatphobic because he said that they were not fat, but rather voluptuous,” he argues, somewhere between serious and funny. The fact is that the model, and the location, is a feast for the photographer, who, with his complicity, takes full advantage of his flexibility, in every sense, and makes him foreshorten in the middle of the street for the photos. DANCE AS A KEY TO THE BODY
Alberto Velasco (Valladolid, 44 years old) started dancing when he was very young. Jotas and popular dances with the older women of their Valladolid town. But it was the choreographer Marta Carrasco who, at the age of 20, taught him the path of his future: dance. A territory that he believed was forbidden due to his physique and that, in the end, turned out to be his safe passage to the world of art.
