Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria hosts its annual conference, launches new publication

Amid the growing uncertainty of the global economy and the changing market trend in Nigeria, 2024 Corporate Governance Conference Organized by the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria, it provided a vital platform for corporate executives, business leaders and governance experts to address future governance and sustainable development.

With the theme “Corporate survival and sustainability: the new face of administration” The conference focused on strategies to guide organizations through recent economic challenges while ensuring long-term growth and sustainability.

During his speech Dr. Armstrong TakangThe CEO of the Ministry of Finance (MOFI), who was the speaker at the plenary session of the event, encouraged state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to fulfill their duties.

He also inspired the participants to demand a higher governance system from the state-owned company. In plenary discussions, panelists emphasized the importance of flexibility, adaptability, and transparency, and how these elements can be integrated into corporate governance practices to build trust and secure future growth.

A major highlight of the event was the release of two highly anticipated publications that will be invaluable tools for business leaders and board members as they navigate today’s rapidly changing governance environment.

Publications include e.g. ”Corporate Governance and Sustainability Reporting in Nigeria” and “Understanding financial reporting, governance and the role of managers”.

The publication was published by Dr. Ernest Ndukwethe Chairman of the Board, MTN Nigeria Communications, as well as other distinguished board members of the club.

Dr. Ndukwe, in his speech, emphasized the importance of these works, noting that they are crucial in helping business leaders stay ahead in an increasingly complex business environment. He emphasized that governments must remain agile, innovative and committed to best governance practices.

Chioma MordiThe Managing Director, Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria, hailed the publication of the publications as a major milestone in the Society’s ongoing efforts to promote governance excellence across Nigeria. He reiterated the Society’s mission to equip board members and business leaders with the tools needed to drive sustainable growth and address emerging challenges.
