Meloni crashes in its cultural wars

The victory of Giorgia Meloni’s far-right in Italy in 2022 meant the arrival to power of a political group that had always been distant from it, even marginalized in public life. That is why they lived it with euphoria as the time for a historical revenge with an ambitious objective: to overthrow the theoretical cultural hegemony of the left and establish and claim their own. A full-fledged cultural war then began, in search of patriotism, tradition and conservative values, based on the colonization of institutions with ideologically related people. Almost four years later, its failure can be seen, pointed out even by respected authors from the conservative world. “Only vague announcements, a lot of smoke, a bit of rally rhetoric and some hypocrisy,” denounced last December in a well-known article by the conservative philosopher Marcello Veneziani, a cultural reference for the right.
