María Blanchard, the great lady of Cubism, had already been in Paris for two years, thanks to various institutional aid with which she almost heroically paid for the house and the paintings, when she returned to visit Spain to spend time in Granada in 1911. “She spent the day painting in the Alhambra,” writes her niece Regina in a letter dated 1976. When she returned to the family home, in the Carmen del Moro, today a national monument, she painted that girl who in the same text estimated that he was then “about four or five years old.” He finished the painting, the temporary stay was over and Blanchard returned to Paris. He never made the trip back to Spain. That painting, unsigned, but amply authenticated, also made its particular journey through the houses of the heir family, the Miguel Barahona. More than a century later, the descendants of the girl Regina and the artist have decided to donate the piece to the Prado Museum.
