The Spanish cartoonist Javier Rodríguez signed one of the great performances of the 2026 edition of the Eisner Awards by winning three awards during the ceremony held within the framework of the San Diego Comic-Con, the largest international meeting dedicated to comics and popular culture. Considered the most prestigious awards in the industry, the Eisners recognized the talent of the Asturian artist for his work in the miniseries Absolute Martian Manhunterpublished by DC Comics.
Rodríguez won the award for best miniseries with screenwriter Deniz Camp, in addition to the recognition for best artist/inker for the same work. The third award rewarded his graphic work in Absolute Martian Manhunter, Batman & Robin: Year One #7 y The New Gods #8consolidating him as one of the great protagonists of the night. The miniseries Absolute Martian Manhunter It was also the most awarded production of the gala, winning a fourth Eisner thanks to the award for best lettering, awarded to Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. The work is part of the Absolute Universe editorial line, promoted by DC Comics to reinvent some of its most emblematic characters. In this case, the story follows an FBI agent whose mind becomes fused with the consciousness of an extraterrestrial being.
These new recognitions reinforce Rodríguez’s upward trajectory in the US market. In 2025 he had already won his first Eisner Award by winning the category of best limited series for Zatanna: Bring Down the Housemade with Canadian screenwriter Mariko Tamaki.
The Spanish representation also shone thanks to the illustrator Laura Pérez, who won the award for the best American edition of international material for Nocturnalpublished in the United States by Fantagraphics and translated by Andrea Rosenberg. The Hispanic presence had another notable moment with the entry of the Argentine Héctor Germán Oesterheld, creator of The Eternautin the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame, a recognition of his legacy in the history of the ninth art.
The success of Rodríguez and Pérez confirms the consolidation of Spanish talent among the most influential authors in the American comic industry, a trend that has continued consistently over the last decade.
