Cees de Keijzer (81) from Maassluis received a towing anchor (state) from harbor master René de Vries on Thursday, July 25. The former sailor and retired employee of the Port of Rotterdam Authority received the award for his extraordinary efforts to promote the Port of Rotterdam after his retirement. De Keijzer organized bunkering conferences, wrote the ten-part series “Beautiful Ships and Jobs” and has been president of the World Ship Society’s Rotterdam chapter for 20 years.

Sleepanker is an award given by the Port of Rotterdam to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the development of the Port of Rotterdam.

Cees de Keijzer retired in 2004, but continued to work enthusiastically for the Port of Rotterdam. He chaired the International Bunker Conference for six years. Since November 2004, he has been the chairman of the Rotterdam branch of the World Ship Society. The association of “ship enthusiasts” is lively. Membership continues to grow; from 375 to 420 last year. Harbormaster De Vries also thanked Cees for the positive and clear way in which he, as an expert, speaks to the press on behalf of the World Ship Society about often complex issues.
