The Spanish actress adds new professional projects after the controversy for her messages on social networks that overshadowed her Oscar nomination
Actress Karla Sofía Gascón is taking up her professional activity after the controversy that exploded in January for offensive publications in X. The interpreter has a new confirmed project, according to the media specialized in cinema Variety. The actress, Oscar nominated for her role in Emilia Pérezwill be the protagonist of The Life Liftand thriller psychological that marks the debut in feature films of the Italian director Stefania Rossella Grassi. The film will also feature the participation of the actor and filmmaker Vincent Gallo, another star paid to the controversies.
In The Life LiftGascón will play a psychiatrist who lives an extreme duality: he is both God and the devil. On the other hand, Gallo will give life to Gabriel, a disturbed man who lives in a New York building and begins to receive mysterious post-in-written messages inside his elevator. These orders him to commit atrocious murders against three other tenants. Gascón has announced its participation in this project during its passage through the Long Film Festival in Turin, the LGBTQ+ longestion contest in Europe, where it has been honored by its career. Although Gallo has not officially confirmed his participation, his name already appears in the promotional materials.
After the scandal lived the weeks prior to the celebration of the Oscar, Gascon seems to have left the storm behind and continues to add projects. In addition to The Life Liftits participation in The bada trans fable that adapts the book by Camila Sosa and that will direct Armando Bó, winner of the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 2015 by Birdman. Its appearance in Italian comedy is also expected Men and Other Inconveniencesround before Emilia Pérez and directed by Giorgio Serafini.

The Italian Stefania Rossella Grassi, responsible for the script with her usual collaborator Tommaso Scartari, has directed several shorts with social approach, such as Preludea piece against feminicide with the voices of Isabella Rossellini and Franco Nero. Filming is planned between the end of this year and February 2026, with an estimated budget of three million dollars.
Gascón lived a storm during the last awards season, when old messages came to light with derogatory comments on issues such as Islam, the case of George Floyd and diversity in Hollywood. Criticism coincided with the rise of Emilia PérezJacques Audiard’s film that left as a favorite and ended up taking two Oscars after accumulating 13 nominations. Although Gascon apologized publicly and attended the gala, he decided not to appear on the red carpet.
For its part, Gallo has also been a controversial figure in the industry, especially after an investigation promoted by the SAG-AFTRA union last year, due to complaints of inappropriate behavior during the casting of su next movie, The Policeman.
