Immaculate Solomon, a new (and captivating) ‘Medea’ for history

Rubén Olmo faces his last stage as director of the National Ballet of Spain (he will leave the company in 2027) the same as he began it: with one foot in renewal and the other in the classic. From both shores floats the double program that premiered on Saturday night at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, consisting of the absolute premiere of Flamenco-Rock-Andalusianwhich pays tribute to the band Triana, and the revival of Medeathe Granero classic whose premiere marks 42 years. And from both sides the dancers of the state company stand triumphant. Whether as a collective and compact block in the first work (in which the 28 performers remain on stage almost the entire time), or with individual performances such as the Medea performed by the dancer Inmaculada Salomón, absolutely superb and on par with other greats who embodied it before such as Manuela Vargas or Merche Esmeralda.
