The big winner of the British Bafta night has been One battle after another, which won the award for best film and won in several of the main categories, consolidating itself as the most celebrated title of the year. In addition to the main award, the film won the award for best direction for Paul Thomas Anderson, best supporting actor for Sean Penn (who won over his co-star Benicio del Toro), best direction of photography and best editing. With the award for adapted screenplay (also for Paul Thomas Anderson) the film was crowned with six awards.
In the acting section, the Best Actor award went to Robert Aramayo for his role in Incontrolable (I Swear), one of the most notable British productions of the year. Aramayo (of Spanish descent) beat the big favorites in his category, Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet, and was also awarded the award for best emerging star, voted by the public. In the best actress category, the winner was Jessie Buckley for her performance in Hamnet (film that was also recognized as best British film) in a role that places her as a favorite to win the Oscar for best female performer.
Another of the stars of the night was The sinners, winner of the award for best original screenplay for Ryan Coogler, best soundtrack and best supporting actress for Wunmi Mosaku. Oliver Laxe, Spanish representative with his Oscar candidate Sirât, The Norwegian left empty-handed when it won the award for best foreign-language film Valor sentimentaldirected by Joachim Trier, who was also nominated for best director. The film will once again compete with Laxe at the Oscars.
The Bafta for best British debut went to My father’s shadow, and in the technical categories Frankenstein (by Guillermo del Toro) prevailed in costumes, visual effects and production design. In the special effects section, the trophy went to Avatar: fire and ashes. And in sound, the award went to F1: the movie. Family and animated films also had their prominent place: Zootropolis 2 was chosen best animated film, although in the children’s and family category, it surpassed Stupid, by Lakshmipriya Devi and Ritesh Sidhwanie. The award for Best Documentary went to Mr. Nobody Against Putin.
