A Pollock painting sold in New York for 155 million, triple its previous record

The painting Issue 7A, 1948by the American painter Jackson Pollock (1912-1956), was sold yesterday Monday at the Christie’s headquarters in New York for 181 million dollars (155.5 million euros), an amount that almost triples the artist’s previous record at auction, achieved five years ago. This work, from 1948, in which the master of abstract expressionism uses his well-known drip technique, represents “a key moment” in his artistic career because with it “he frees himself from the bonds of conventional easel painting,” according to Christie’s, which has begun its auction season in New York.
