There are echoes of the latter story in the way Lost Atoms charts the ups and downs of a relationship from beginning to end. It starts with a “meet cute”. Robbie (Layton), a cookery teacher in a training canteen for troubled youths, gets chatting to aspiring artist Jess (Sinclair Robinson) in the café she’s working at, and tethers his laptop to her phone. She flirts, he runs away. Days later, at a railway station, their devices connect again. Looking back, they can’t agree which station it was – the first of many disputed details or misrememberings.
