TO AMSTELVE An overview of the work of photographer Lonneke van der Palen (1985) can be seen in the summer months at Museum JAN Amstelveen. Lonneke van der Palen made a selection of over ten years of work, often done in series or with recurring themes.
In Lonneke van der Palen’s pictures, everyday objects play a leading role: from a cutlery holder, an unripe pepper and a clothespin to a bottle of sunscreen or, in close-up, body parts. Although everything is staged, his pictures look very realistic. Van der Palen carefully selects his subjects, rearranges, enlarges, adds or removes, and filters out noise. Thus he reduces the visible world to a purified essence. This leads to compositions where form, color and light are judiciously connected.
Lonneke van der Palen graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague in 2011. Since her graduation, she has combined her freelance work with commissioned work. In recent years, his work has been exhibited at Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Nederlands Fotomuseum and Unseen Amsterdam, and he has photographed for fashion houses such as Maison Margiela, Chloé and Paco Rabanne. Her first publication, “Lemons Gazing at Mount Etna,” will be published in June in collaboration with design agency Our Polite Society and publisher Free Pony Press.
