Wikipedia Conference WikiConNL on the availability of information in the broadest sense of the word is on May 18 at Beeld & Geluid in Hilversum. The theme of this year’s conference is “Between Struggle and Cooperation”.
The conference will focus on Wikimedia projects, information sharing partners and the challenges facing Wikipedia. The theme “Between struggle and cooperation” deals with the impact of global technological and social developments on Wikimedia projects and the dynamics behind the scenes to reach a consensus on content and methods.
Keynote speaker Dr. Mirko Schäfer
The keynote speaker is Dr. Mirko Schäfer, assistant professor of the focus area of Digital Society Management at Utrecht University. In his speech, Schäfer reflects on the role of encyclopedias as an independent and educational source of information. He also reflects on challenges such as the weakening of reliability through politicization and the misuse of common property to produce artificial intelligence content.

In addition to various speakers, there will be flash presentations on various topics, such as the new event registration tool and the Wiki dictionary. WikiconNL concludes the Connection Prize 2024. This new initiative by Wikimedia Netherlands annually honors special contributions to the promotion of free knowledge. Individuals, organizations, collaborations, projects and initiatives in the Netherlands, Flanders, Suriname and the Caribbean are invited to propose free information projects.
