The wedding celebration of the two twenty-somethings begins today, Saturday, July 13, in the Indian metropolis of Mumbai. It shouldn’t be world news, but those involved are doing everything they can to make it so. The groom is the son of India’s richest man and that means a four-day social event that brings traffic to a standstill in Mumbai.

The groom, Anant Ambani, is the son of Mukesh Ambani, who, according to Forbes business magazine, is the richest person in Asia and the eighth richest person in the world with a fortune of $116 billion. Father Ambani is the owner of the Reliance Industries Group, which has interests in petrochemicals, telecommunications and retail.

The Ambanis are also known for their home in Mumbai, a $1 billion 27-story private apartment complex called Antilia. The building has three helipads, a 160-car garage, a private movie theater, a swimming pool and a fitness center. It overlooks one of Mumbai’s most densely populated slums, about 10 kilometers away.

Police are considering the event as a ‘public event’ due to the presence of international and Indian VIPs. There is a lot of criticism under the traffic police’s X publication. “Since when is an industrialist’s personal event a public event? Is every citizen of Mumbai invited to this or a select few?”, someone says, for example.

Mumbai is famous for its busy and chaotic traffic. Especially this time of year, during the monsoon season. Earlier this week, Mumbai experienced heavy rains and floods, leading to major traffic jams.
