The retired bullfighter Ricardo Ortiz, born in Malaga in 1974, died this afternoon in the corrals of the Plaza de Malaga as a result of injuries inflicted by a bull during the tasks of corralling the cattle that will be dealt with this Saturday in this bullring, belonging to the ranches of Puerto de San Lorenzo and El Pilar.

Although the specific circumstances of the accident, which occurred after seven in the afternoon, are unknown, it appears, although this detail is not confirmed, that the victim suffered a goring near the heart that ended his life.

The Lances de Futuro company, directed by José María Garzón, and which has organized the Picasso Bullfight, has confirmed that Ortiz worked in the plaza as a corralero, and that the event occurred when handling work was being carried out with the animals and one of them gave Ortiz a strong blow that caused his death.

Ricardo Ortiz belonged to a family with a prestigious bullfighting tradition in Malaga. He was the son of the famous banderillero Manolo Ortiz, now deceased, he was recognized as a brave bullfighter, successful in different afternoons as a bullfighter and with few opportunities as a matador.

He was part of a trio of Malaga bullfighters along with Juan José Trujillo and Javier Conde, and achieved success in the banderillas banderillas with his father and Trujillo himself, a recognized subaltern still active.

He took the alternative on November 28, 1994 in Quito (Ecuador) from Joselito as godfather and Juan Cruz as witness. Although his career as a matador was short on contracts, he appeared several times on the shoulders of La Malagueta, one of them in 2000 in the company of José Tomás.

Little by little, his career declined, he ended up retiring from the bullring, but he remained linked to the world of bullfighting, and hence his work as a corralero in the bullring of Málaga.

Ricardo Ortiz also made the news in July 2002 when he was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for a crime against public health.

The Picassian Bullfight will be held this Saturday afternoon with the participation of the right-handed Fortes, Juan Ortega and Pablo Aguado, who will fight bulls from Puerto de San Lorenzo and El Pilar.
