Despite Rosenfield’s ministrations, the dialogue lacks the sparkle of later Coward, with the couple arguing over ownership of the “best” pencil and whether to have last night’s mutton for supper. Things get worse when Keld’s first play is a hit, making a semi-legitimate actress out of flirty chorus girl Ruby Raymond (Zoe Goriely), who starts angling for, ahem, bigger parts. His second play, also a hit, is rather obviously titled Stress.
