The bullfighter Miguel Abellán has left his position as director of the Taurinos Center (CAT) of Madrid “to devote himself to other professional fields”, and will be relieved by the matador Miguel Martín, who in recent years has coordinated the José Cubero bullfighting school It is of the capital.
This was reported by the CAT in a note that adds that Abellán has presented his resignation “by personal decision” at the meeting of the Board of Directors of the CAT held on Tuesday, and that the change in the address will be effective in the Governing Council Tomorrow, Wednesday.
Abellán was appointed director of the CAT in September 2019, shortly after the arrival of Isabel Díaz Ayuso to the presidency of the Community of Madrid, and was the first professional in the sector who held the position.
At that same meeting, the CAT, chaired by Carlos Novillo, Minister of the Environment, Agriculture and Interior of Madrid, has approved the 28 bull posters that will compose the next San Isidro Fair that will be presented next Thursday. The community government must approve the posters prepared by the Plaza 1 company in its status as owner of the Plaza de Las Ventas and in accordance with what the Lease of the Madrid Coso dictates.
As for Miguel Martín, the CAT points out that he is “a loved and respected person in the world of bull”, and who has “extensive experience in the political sphere, because for several years he has performed functions as a councilor for the Popular Party in several departments ”.
Miguel Martín, new managing director of the Center for Bullfighting Affairs of the Community of Madrid, is the second bullfighter to assume this responsibility. He took the alternative on April 9, 1995 in the Plaza de Toros de Toledo, and confirmed it in Madrid on August 20 of that year.
He opened the big door of Las Sales on September 19, 2000 – before he did it in 1989 in a promotional bullfight – after cutting two ears to a bull by Juan Antonio Romao de Moura. Then, he decided to become a subaltern, and has acted under José Tomás, Miguel Abellán, El Juli, Alejandro Talavante and Iván Fandiño.
In the political sphere, Miguel Martín has been councilor in Seville the new one since May 2011 to 2019, and currently exercised as coordinator of the CAM Tauromaquia schools, in addition to managing and coordinating the promotional celebrations promoted by the different municipalities of the community.
