At the last meeting of the Motherwell Photographic Society, the Guest Speaker was George Robertson, a member of the Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club and the Scottish Photography Circle.

George is a multi-award winning photographer who just this week won the Mountain Photo of the Year 2024 award for his image taken on the Isle of Skye.

George, who is an international mountain guide, gave a presentation titled “The Snows of Kilimanjaro – Trekking Africa’s Highest Mountain”.

George has led eighteen treks to the summit of the 5,895m mountain in Tanzania, usually lasting six to seven days.

The first part of his presentation included pictures of the villages and people who live in the area at the foot of the mountain. Club members were then treated to a series of stunning photos taken at various stages of the climb.

Members were shown photographs taken of the rainforest, the heath vegetation zone, the alpine desert and finally the summit zone.

George gave a fascinating insight into the logistics of getting a large group of people to the top of Kilimanjaro and also getting them back down safely.
