A half-time marked by the political context

The election of Bad Bunny and Green Day has turned the Super Bowl into another stage for the confrontation between pop culture and the White House. The incorporation of Green Day’s opening act reignited friction with Trumpafter the band has repeatedly criticized their agenda and turned songs like American Idiot in a protest vehicle against the MAGA movement. At Coachella 2025, for example, Billie Joe Armstrong even adapted the lyrics of that song to declare on stage that it is not part of the MAGA agenda.

Bad Bunny, on the other hand, has been very critical of immigration policies and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE), to the point of leaving the continental United States out of one of his latest tours for fear of raids against his Latin followers. Under this context, the NFL assures that ICE will not carry out immigration control operations during sports day.

Trump has announced that he will not attend Super Bowl LX this year, after having attended the previous final, and has openly declared himself “anti” Bad Bunny and Green Day, whom he accuses of “sowing hate” and being a “terrible choice” for the show.
