Members of the Mary Webb Society said they were shocked and saddened to learn that their president, Dr. Gladys Mary Coles, died suddenly last month at the age of 89.

Dr Coles, who died on October 7, was the leading biographer of the early 20th century Shropshire author and poet Mary Webb and a lifelong champion of her life and works.
