Sarah Ferguson has reportedly ‘outed’ the royal family and out-shone high society.
Friends of the former duchess made the claim as she prepares to lose her longtime home at Royal Lodge after she and husband Andrew Windsor were stripped of their royal titles over their links to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
A close friend of Sarah’s told The i Paper: “She’s lost her way. I’m trying to keep her spirits up, but when we spoke she seemed lonely and isolated.”
The friend added that Sarah’s daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, remained supportive, as was Andrew.
But Sarah – who has had long-term financial difficulties – is told she has no options left for her future flat and no permanent alternative accommodation.
The 66-year-old, who has lived in the 30-room Windsor with ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, 65, since 2008, is expected to move out of the luxury property within months.
King Charles, 76, has reportedly made it clear that his responsibility extends only to finding his brother an apartment.
Sarah lost the title of Duchess of York and much of her earning power after becoming embroiled in the scandal surrounding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In an email written to Epstein in 2011 and released earlier this year, Sarah deeply regretted distancing herself from him after his 2008 conviction for procuring a minor for sex.
A source close to her said the email was written in “panic” and without legal advice, explaining: “She was afraid Epstein would sue her for defamation. She hadn’t committed any crimes – she was just unhappy. If there was a WWII bomb in Piccadilly, Sarah would step on it and detonate it.”
Socialite and party planner Liz Brewer told The i Sarah had always been “very personable” but admitted she was not currently welcome at high society gatherings.
He said: “Unfortunately, people are not brave enough to make their own decisions. He is in a very difficult situation.”
Sarah has also been rejected by several charities and the media.
ITV sources told The i Paper that she will no longer appear on daytime shows such as This Morning or Loose Women.
Her children’s book Flora and Fern: Kindness Along The Way was pulled from publication last month.
His charity, the SF Trust, has also removed all references to his former title from its website.
Friends say Ferguson is considering options to restore his finances, including a possible interview with Oprah Winfrey, who has hosted him twice before — in 1996 after her divorce from Andrew and in 2010 after an undercover sting by the News of the World.
The interview is said to bring in up to a million dollars.
Another possible project is a memoir detailing her experiences of royal life, which could also attract a six-figure payday. However, friends believe she would avoid saying anything that could damage her daughters’ relationship with senior royals, including future king Prince William.
