The Thermal Chess proposes the activity Sara Khadem, who is here, with the stellar presence of Sara Khadem (1997). The Iranian chess player obtained Spanish nationality in July 2023, by letter of naturalization, after having starred in an episode of solidarity and courage that transcended the 64 squares.

In September 2022, young activist Jina Mahsa Amini was arrested and tortured by the Iranian morality police for not wearing the hijab (veil) correctly. From that moment on, Sara (Female Grandmaster, 37th in the world in the FIDE ranking) requested political asylum in our country. Today, Khadem not only plays under the Spanish flag, but is the current Spanish champion. Her story is undoubtedly an inspiring and courageous tale.

The cycle’s programming includes the following activities:

Sara Khadem (Sarasadat Khademalsharieh), born on March 10, 1997 in Tehran, Iran, is a prominent chess player with dual Iranian and Spanish nationality. She holds the titles of Woman Grandmaster since 2013 and International Master since 2015, awarded by FIDE. She trained under the guidance of Khosro Harandi and Robin van Kampen, and has represented her country in important competitions, such as the 2017 Women’s World Chess Championship.
