Last Saturday (November 22nd) Robertsbridge in East Sussex hosted their Bonfire Day party.

The event takes place every year on the third weekend in November and marks the end of Sussex’s bonfire season.

As part of the celebration, an effigy – a model of someone who is often portrayed negatively – is traditionally burned at the bonfire.

This year Robertsbridge Bonfire Society chose Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew.

The pictures captured the moment when it caught light, sparks could be seen coming from the figure’s nose and mouth.

In recent months, the former prince has had to face strong public criticism for his connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. At the end of October, Buckingham Palace announced that they were stripping Andrew of his rank.

Many people took to social media to praise the image, many describing it as “brilliant” and “wonderful”.

The Robertsbridge bonfire party takes place throughout the day, starting with a maroon shot at 7am before a ‘bonfire breakfast’ is held at the Robertsbridge Club.

In the evening, the procession passed through the village before the lighting of the bonfire and the spectacular fireworks display.

Despite the wet weather, the event went ahead as planned and the organizers thanked the public for their support.

In a social media post, it wrote: “After a year of planning, fundraising and preparing for our 35th anniversary, we didn’t let the rain get us down and rejoiced with our bonfire community and all of you.

“Thank you for sharing our evening and making it all so worthwhile.”

The association consists entirely of volunteers and is financed by donations.
