The funeral and burial of the legendary actress Brigitte Bardot will be held this Wednesday at the Notre-Dame del’Assomption church in Saint-Tropez, the town on the French Riviera where she lived. Many followers of the interpreter, who died at the age of 91 on December 28, have come to the surroundings of the temple to follow the ceremony, which is planned to be intimate and simple, through the giant screens installed in the port and the city center. In the afternoon, there will be a public tribute in what is known as the “fishermen’s meadow”, a green slope between the town and the cemetery.
Bardot represented one of the greatest symbols of French cinema and, surely, of the entire country. He retired from the sets in 1973, at just 39 years old, but he had already had time to become a myth, starring in films such as And God created woman, The truth o Long live Maria!
In addition to being a star of the seventh art and a beauty icon, the performer embodied different causes throughout her life. Above all, it showed a country where women became sexually emancipated and abandoned the social and cultural background. Later, she also became famous for her fierce activism in defense of animals. Finally, in recent times, she had become a muse of the extreme right.
The president of the French far-right National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, has announced that she will attend the afternoon’s tribute “on a personal and friendly basis.”
