Private View at Soho Theatre: ‘Like Tom Stoppard doing a dark, queer love play’

Ideas crash into each other like particles in a collider, and when one of the pair launches into a speech – about light, art, quantum entanglement – it sometimes sits a bit too heavily as a metaphor we’re supposed to read into, or as a bit of undigested research. The play could do with slightly even-ing out in its dialogue so that scenes don’t jolt from nought to sixty – love to argument to violence to reconciliation – so bumpily. But mostly it’s a really brainy rush of a play that tries to disentangle love, art and physics all over the space of 70 minutes, and often succeeds.
