Both nascent artists and those who have not picked the pencil over the years, “encouraged to join the open day to participate in Man Arts Island.

The event, 2 pm to 4 pm BST Saturday at Thie Ellyn Workshop in Douglas, gives people the opportunity to talk to existing members and follow art presentations.

Rosie Greening, who joined in 2021, said: “Being an artist can be a very lonely practice, it’s not a team sports”, but joining society had meant that she had “joined a really lovely community”.

Founded in 1953, 28 artists, its membership has since grown to over 300.

Society said that membership was “open to anyone who is interested in art”, and the artists meet most days in their headquarters to utilize space and facilities.

Tasting would give you the opportunity to explore the space and enjoy the water color, ink and acrylic shows, it said.

Greening, which has recently released a collection of Manx Flora and the fauna pencil drawings, said, “Not everyone has a room to paint or put a lot of drawings at home, so it’s great that there is space there.”

He said he had also found a visit with Thie Ellyn, who had helped him make “big friends” while moving to the island four years ago, who had also inspired him when “a bit of a creative function”.

The artist said that “a real blend of styles and abilities” was found in the weekly sessions held in Manx’s capital headquarters.

This meant that people could “continue their own thing” or get “as much support as they need” in space, he said.

A guy member Kim Gurry said that he had not “picked a pencil or painted after school” before he decided to train and re -learn in art and clay in 2022.

The following year, when joining society, he said that learning the established artists had also helped to “rebuild confidence in drawing and painting” alongside formal education.

He said that if “returned to art” or wanted to become a member, it “would show you in the right direction on your journey,” he added.
