The popularity of Dutch music seems to be still on the rise. This is not least due to the Goldbands and Froukjes of recent years, who always know how to express themselves creatively in different ways. Such artists are also doing well in our country. For example, Gotu Jim was allowed to open Pukkelpop in Tanssisal last summer. The Amsterdam artist then set the tone for the four-day music festival. The purpose of this presentation was to promote the EP HIGH SOCIETY SWAGGERBOYwhich he released to the world in the spring. Here he gave an insight into his personality, which proved difficult to capture anyway. A few more club shows are planned for the end of the year, and “Koortsdroom” will probably be on the set list.
Although the song is a kind of farewell to the nightlife, the steady beat still invites you to dance. Classic autotune techniques and tempo changes maintain the relaxed atmosphere well. The heat doesn’t rise to the medical point of fever, but we don’t get cold at all listening to Jim’s anecdotes. The two-and-a-half-minute duration is timed well so that it doesn’t seem whiny. With this, he manages to capture the essence of his previous EP while rapping. After all, behind the meme-like masquerade lies someone like you and me, who is also fighting against insecurities. Gotu Jim is no exception and confirms this to his (mainly young) fans in “Fever Dream”.
Next month, Gotu Jim will play in Simplon (14.12.), Kavka (19.12.), De Hellingi (20.12.) and Effenaar (27.12.).
