In recent years, Ozempic has become a household name that helps all of the celebrities lose weight to colleagues.
In fact, a study by the Dalhousie University estimated that 900,000-1.4 million Canadians used injectable drugs or similar drugs in 2024, which is expected to increase only.
Type 2 diabetes and obesity are used by Ozempic and other Glucagon-like Peptide-1 receptor agents (GLP-1). They work by regulating blood sugar, slowing down the stomach and increasing feelings of fullness. Some studies have shown that people using these drugs may lose 10-15 percent their body weight for more than a year.
But GLP-1s don’t just change what we see in the bathroom. According to the new documentary, they also have far -reaching effects in society as a whole, which affects how we buy food and dress. And early studies suggest that GLP-1s can help to deal with many other health problems, which means we can soon use them on an even wider scale.

Big changes in consumer behavior
Due to the mere number of GLP-1 users, different industries see significant changes in consumer behavior.
For example, the most important players in the food industry will notice trends in size, smaller portions and less snacks.
In 2023, the US CEO of Walmart said that people who took the prescription for GLP-1 in the brand pharmacies and also bought groceries on the same shopping trip, usually to buy fewer food units.
“Each calorie you eat must calculate more,” says Jo-Ann McArthur, President of Nutrition in Toronto in Toronto. “And the challenge for the food industry is to find its share of the size of the dish.”
People in the fashion world also notice the changes. Aileen Selkirk, owner of Toronton Posh, has been operating for 44 years.
“From last year to this year for size … We definitely sold smaller sizes than the previous year,” he says Ozempic effect.
The boutique has even sold more belts. “Women are losing weight and they want to point their waist,” Selkirk explains.
Wedding dress tailors also find that they have to make wider changes than ever before, in response to the enormous GLP-controlled weight loss of the bride.
“We have always seen that the brides lose weight during the process … five, 10, 15 pounds,” says Susan Ruddie, owner of a wedding dress in Brooklyn, New York. “But it’s a very different weight loss than what happens to Ozempic. The brides usually lose more than 35, 40 pounds. I’ve heard up to 80 pounds of weight loss.”
“I see a world where, if everyone is in Ozempic, there are not enough people in the world to change these dresses.”
More than weight loss medicine
In addition to GLP-1s help people manage their body weight to control the promises addictionsWhether they are alcohol, opioids, gambling or porn.
“GLP-1 drugs seem to affect the reward route not only for food but also with drugs and alcohol and some of others that cause addictive behavior,” says Dr. Alexandra Sowa, author Ozempic revolution. “Their brains tell them they no longer need it.”
From gambling and alcohol to pornography, ozempic and GLP-1 drugs could soon be used to improve all kinds of addictions.
Researchers also examine several other potential effects of GLP-1, including how they can help people treat or reduce the risk of certain diseases.
“There are a few mechanisms that lead to such a deep health benefit from GLP-1,” Sowa says.
“What we see is that by improving the health of metabolism with these drugs, we reduce the whole number of diseases – 16 types of cancer, cardiovascular disease, dementia, Alzheimer.”
But while the potential benefits of GLP-1 seem promising, strong drugs also have less desirable effects.
According to Ozempic decision makers, the general side effects of the drug may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Less common but more serious side effects may include pancreatitis, low blood sugar, visual changes and serious stomach problems.
In the documentary, experts discuss the potential of reduced muscle mass and bone density as a result of rapid weight loss.
People also tend to be less satisfied with eating when taking these drugs, which can affect their social life.
“We see that people in these drugs are not going to restaurants so much. I think it’s kind of sad. I think you know that food and sharing will be a pleasure,” McArthur says.
This is just the beginning
When Ozempic and other GLP-1s produce weight loss on a massive scale and possibly treat several other health states, some experts will see the future where many of us use them.

It is still possible to see which effects of Ozempic and similar drugs in the world are in the world, but one thing is sure: the exam is already underway.
