After 12 years and five albums leading the band that carried his last name and with which he conquered the music indie In Spain, Navarro singer Mikel Izal lives his solo career since 2022. Now, in 2025, he has started the year with a trip to Mexico, where he was already presenting Fear and paradise (2023), his first solo work, and where this time they were waiting for him to record a video clip with a Mexican singer, it is not yet known which one.

During his trip, Izal visited last Thursday, January 23, El País’s writing in Mexico City and chatted with the journalist Alejandro Santos Cid about what it is to be a musician without the band with which he grew on the stage, about those accusations that In 2018 they pointed him out of harassment and qualifies as a “horrible campaign against him” or how he looks for a sound that convinces his usual followers.

For Mikel Izal, who considers this second part of his career as “a second miracle” after the appearance of Izal, something has changed now that he is alone. “There are many little things,” he confesses to the journalist, such as the exploration of a more electronic sound, playing with a new band as companions, the scenery, recording or giving more importance to choirs, things about those that “I don’t know if People find out, but I do, ”he says. And he points out that although there may be no changes in the essence, composition, his voice and his musical universe, in the concerts he dares to touch the old hits of Izal with arrangements more consistent with the new sound: “That It is very traumatic for listeners who have been listening to the song in the same way, I knew that this was going to generate sensations, but it was that. ”

On the result, Izal believes “that it has been positive in general, many people have told me that I did not expect them and liked them. It is that the old versions of them do not at all, I feel very proud of what we recorded together, but I had no coherence to touch them in the same way. ”

From Mexico, where he will return in March for the Vive Latino 2025 Festival, Mikel Izal also talks about what has taken him to that country: “I get the feeling that I could live many things in Mexico that I have not lived.
