Trade group UKHospitality has estimated that, nationally, about 1,000 restaurants, 600 hotels and 500 pubs are at risk of closure this year as a result of the business rate changes, with pubs facing a 76 per cent average hike over the next three years as pandemic-related reliefs are removed. Hundreds of these losses would inevitably be in London, by far the biggest cluster of hospitality businesses in the UK.
