The apparent mainstream Korean wave, known as “hallyu”, follows an appetite for Korean restaurants in London. The likes of Chungdam in Soho preceded the rapturously reviewed Miga in Hackney, which was opened by a family who have run a takeaway in New Malden, London’s Koreatown — with an estimated population of around 10,000 Koreans — for years.
