The young 17 -year -old Valladolid pianist Guillermo Hernández Barrocal has reached a new milestone in his career by proclaiming himself winner of the first prize and prize of the public of the fifth edition of the Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition (Skipc 2025), held in Tokyo between July 26 and August 3, 2025.
The contest, considered one of the most demanding piano competitions of the international circuit, brought together young elite performers under 35 years and coming from all over the world. Guillermo exceeded the two previous rounds and, in the final, performed the piano concert in the slightest Op. 54 by Robert Schumann, captivating the jury and the audience.
His double prize is a historical result for a Spanish pianist of his age and a decisive step in his international projection.
Prior to his participation in Tokyo, Guillermo has been a finalist of the Princess of Girona Arte 2025 and has participated in the prestigious IKIF 2025 Festival in New York.
His career already includes prizes in international competitions such as Jeune Chopin (Switzerland), Pernik (Bulgaria) or César Franck (Belgium), and recitals in nine countries, acting together with figures such as Martha Argerich, Ainhoa Arteta and Andrés Salado.
