Costa Coffee bosses have settled on yet another store closure, following a string of other branch closures in recent months.
The coffee shop’s High Street store in Marlborough ceased trading in late July, with the staff members working at the store allegedly relocated to work at other branches.
No reason was given as to why the coffee shop closed, but it signals more concern for the UK’s high streets, which have witnessed a slew of high-profile store and cafe closures in recent months.
“We can confirm that our High Street store in Marlborough closed for trade on July 17, 2025. The majority of our talented team members have relocated to Costa Coffee stores in surrounding areas,” a representative for the coffee brand said.
Costa Coffee was founded back in 1971 in London and now boasts more than 2,700 stores across the UK and Ireland, as well as many international cafes.
According to local reports, people who frequented the Marlborough branch are saddened by its closure, branding it a “terrible loss.”
Although Costa is the UK’s largest coffee brand and it has a lot of loyal customers, it has also recorded a slump in sales in recent years amid a general dip in demand for coffee across the country.
According to the Coca-Cola company, which acquired Costa Coffee in 2019, its overall group revenue was up, but its coffee segment saw a 3% decrease in the same time frame. Sens Coffee claims this could be down to “heightened competition and cautious consumer spending.”
As a result, it seems that the much-loved brand has been forced to make cuts to its stores, reducing its market share. Here is a list of stores that have closed over recent months.
