David Lynch, the visionary director who changed American independent cinema since the 1980s, has died. The death has been confirmed on Facebook by the family of the author of classics such as Blue Velvet, The elephant man and the cult television series Twin Peaks. “There is a big hole in the world now that he is no longer with us, but as he would say: ‘Keep your eyes on the donut and not the hole,’” notes the publication on the social network’s official page. Last year, the artist had revealed that he suffered from pulmonary emphysema, but that he would continue smoking (and working) despite the news. David Lynch was 78 years old.

Lynch’s family has not revealed the cause of death. They concluded the brief statement with “it is a beautiful day with golden sunlight and blue skies everywhere.” The phrase is a nod to the weather reports Lynch began doing in 2005 from Southern California for an independent radio show hosted by Joe Escalante, the drummer of The Vandals. These experiments were later uploaded to YouTube. During the pandemic they were picked up and amplified by local public radio. His weather reports extended the film director’s unclassifiable fame.

News in development. There will be expansion…
