What are we going to live in this workshop?

The day will take place growing up exploring different ways of making analog collages, from the simplest and most intuitive to the most complex and conceptual ones.

This workshop proposes a playful approach to this technique through experimentation and reflection, but also through transgression and chance. The aim of the day is to embrace error and to break free from the tyranny of the aesthetic result and one’s own style.

To achieve this, we will work individually but also (and above all) in groups, placing special emphasis on collective creation and authorship and on the generation of shared pieces in which the sum of the parts generates unexpected and surprising results.

All of this, of course, among piles of old magazines and photographs.

Workshop Program Details

In the morning there will be multiple exercises: from freedom, limitations, movement, geometry, the creation of an exquisite corpse and an infinite collage.

In the afternoon we will create a collective mural piece and hang it on the wall.

What do you need to bring?

Scissors, a box cutter, a glue stick, a pencil, a metal ruler, and a couple of current magazines with color photographs.

Who is it for?

Anyone interested, with or without previous experience in collage.

Susana Blasco (Zaragoza, 1972) is a graphic designer and visual artist, specialising in collage. Her clients, from large institutions to small commissions, are especially focused on the cultural sphere, approaching each project from a conceptual perspective and trying to open channels between the language of design and a more artistic sensibility, placing special emphasis on the process and experimentation. In her more personal projects she is especially focused on the exploration of memory, the past, recollections, oblivion and women, frequently using old photographs that she rescues from flea markets and small found objects as source material.

She also feels a special connection with geometry, fragmentation and repetition. For the past 10 years she has lived in Bilbao, where she has established her studio and residence. Her work, both graphic and artistic, has been reviewed in specialized media and has been part of numerous individual and collective exhibitions in the United States, Germany, Portugal and throughout the country. In 2017 she received a Gràffica Award for her contributions to the collage technique. Currently she continues to combine her work as a designer with her artistic side, which continues to evolve.

Moments It is a unique opportunity to discover, without taboos, the history of different contemporary and popular urban cultures, which were born thanks to philosophy. Do it yourself (do it yourself), so deeply rooted in different subcultures such as punk rock, skate, surf, graffiti, jazz, or flamenco… Through design, graphics, music, film, photography, fashion, history, muralism, documentation, literature, crafts… we can see the irreversible and definitive change in the conception of culture and art with a capital C. As Juanjo Fuentes, director of the Moments Festival, explains, this event It embraces an audience free from stereotypes and prejudices and offers a unique opportunity to discover incredible works and see that modernity and tradition are not incompatible, quite the opposite.. In addition, this festival seeks and succeeds in “spreading proposals, projects, stories and people, linked to underground already the philosophy do it yourselfwhich usually have little place in the cultural and educational centres of our territory and which are one hundred percent authentic and fascinating.”
