Civil society calls for changes to the Firearms Control Act

Cape Town – According to online data center SaferSpaces, all illegal weapons were once legal before they were diverted to an illegal arms depot in South Africa.

Gun Free SA conducted a study in 2021, according to which there are almost 3 million legal gun owners in the country.

At the same time, there were approximately 2.35 million illegal firearms in circulation in South Africa.

According to the latest published police statistics, more than 12,700 people died between January and June of this year.

This equates to an average of 70 murders per day, with guns being the most popular weapon.

Civil society demands the government to change the Firearms Control Act.
