CFA Society Cyprus this week highlighted a number of initiatives spearheaded by its president, Nikos Potamaris, since its new board was elected in July this year.

According to an official announcement, the society has strengthened links with key regulatory bodies, including the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), whose chairman participated in a webinar on the ESG landscape.

It has also stepped up collaboration with the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) and secured sponsors to organize events, discussions and webinars aimed at deepening financial literacy and market knowledge.

The announcement also highlighted key initiatives, including the holding of a debate on “Bridging the Racial Pension Gap” led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Another significant step is to increase the annual professional development provision for CFA members from 200 hours to 300 hours, achieved through a partnership with the European Institute of Governance and Finance (EIMF).

Monthly newsletters and expanded media exposure have also been introduced to highlight the society’s efforts and strengthen relationships with sponsors and partners.

CFA Society Cyprus also strengthened its advocacy work through several committees. Established in 2022, the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Committee promotes equality in the workplace and in society by organizing major events such as the ‘Racial Pension Gap’ debate.

The release also said that the Financial Literacy Committee focused on educating young people and has given financial management presentations to more than 3,000 high school students since 2018.

A significant achievement has been the inclusion of financial literacy as a subject in the private school in Nicosia in the material developed by the University of Cyprus in cooperation with society.

The Advocacy Committee, the release continued, promotes investor protection by promoting transparency and professionalism in the financial market.

It recently played a key role in presenting the EU Action Plan (2024-2029) to strengthen capital markets, integrate ESG criteria and promote pension systems while addressing the ethical use of AI.

In addition, the University Relations and Equity Research Challenge Committee annually organizes a financial analysis competition for university students in Cyprus, which supports the participation of the winning team in global CFA Institute challenges.
