30 Cardiff University students gathered in Gurdwara to make meals for over 700 people
The Sikhi Association of the University of Cardiff has kept “Langar” in the Student Association by providing free meals to the community.

They dedicated four hours to cook and community service and seek to help those who are struggling with rising living costs.
Langar, which means a “community kitchen”, is a unique tradition that is rooted in Sikhie’s faith that offers free meals for everyone, regardless of religion or background. It reflects the core values of Sikhism, including equals value, selfless service and community spirit.
Cardiff UNI’s Sikhi society started cooking at 5.30am before carrying food stuffed foods to the students’ union.
As part of the tradition, participants covered their heads, removed their shoes and sat on an equal level with others during eating.
This is their way of doing a sewa, which means self -service.
A student at the University of Cardiff, who participates in the event, said, “It’s such a wonderful idea and a really nice atmosphere.”
Cardiff University Sikh is a community that welcomes all students who follow or are interested in Sikhie’s faith and express the basic values of the Sikh principles such as inclusion, unity and Sarbat da Bhala (everyone’s well -being).
Nishan Johal, a co -chairman of the Cardiff Union Sikh, described society as a means of bringing their culture and religion to the university.
Nishan said, “We want to promote an equal value. The first guru that started this said that everyone was equally valuable. So when we tie our heads, we take our shoes off, we sit on the floor on our level, it is our way of saying it. “
Society also participates in various activities, such as weekly visits to Gurdwara on Pearl Street, collaboration with other universities such as Bristol and Swansea, Sikhi societies, cultural events and social activities.
They also host speakers such as Sikh’s basics, Sikh Awareness Society and Midlands Langar Seva Society.
Their task is to provide a hospitable space where students can explore Sikh while in contact with meaningful connections.
The event is enjoyed by students around the university, in detail a wonderful atmosphere and the environment.
