Autumn Fair: Emotion without outburst | Culture

There was excitement until the end, which is no small feat; even a slight division of opinions during Adrián’s task in the fifth, which seemed lost in time, and although the bullfight did not meet expectations, it maintained interest in the display of dedication and commitment of the two bullfighters.

Fernando Adrián and Borja Jiménez took the celebration very seriously; and that was noticeable from the moment the procession broke down and they received a long ovation from the audience.

When the sounds of bugles and timpani had not finished, Adrián went to the media to wait on his knees for the first of the afternoon; But Borja Jiménez did the same with his three bulls. And the two competed in quites and stood out with the cape in long changes and lanterns, Veronica style, with aprons, tight chicuelinas and very graceful stockings and long ones. Then, with the crutch it was another story. The illusion was maintained until the end, but there was no room for that rapturous, exciting and moving task that the entire square was waiting for. And the responsibility was on the bullfighters, of course, and also on the uneven bullfight of Victoriano del Río, happy and gentle on the horses with the exception of the sixth, who really pushed, but disappointing on the muleta; the first was embedded, the second was very noble, and the rest were dull and hollow.

Adrián drew up to four long lanterns on his knees in the receipt of his first, the first in the middle and the others in the third. His credentials were clear. What happened next is that that first bull came to the muleta asking for war, vibrant and greedy, and although the bullfighter placed his shoes firmly, he gave the impression that he felt overwhelmed by the animal’s vigor. The batches were very short, and only one of them stood out from the others, somewhat muddled by the animal’s demands.

With another long one in the third he received his second, with a short trip, lackluster and ungrateful despite the bullfighter’s disposition. His work amounted to very little because, perhaps, his opponent was not one to receive passes and more passes without substance. And Adrián wanted to put the rest in the fifth; Kneeling in the middle he began the crutch task, with a tight pass changed from behind until he was caught by the jacket without further consequences. His willingness was total, but the work did not reach the levels of interest that were envisioned at the beginning. There were a few more scares, and little real bullfighting. In the end, tight-fitting bernadinas raised spirits and also the division of opinions in the public. Certainly, more was expected from Fernando Adrián.

As expected from Borja Jiménez, another waste of pride from start to finish, but without completing a triumphant task in any of his three bulls. He heard a warning in each of them, which is a bad sign, he committed himself to very short batches, without material time to savor anything, and he killed poorly.

His first was very noble, and, after a very bullfighting beginning of the task sitting in the stirrup of the boards, the first measures with the right hand were a model of softness and depth. Later, he lowered the pitch of the task due to his interest in shortening the batches, and when his work descended the slope of disenchantment, he drew two very brilliant natural ones and four low-assisted ones that tasted like glory, but he killed poorly.

He returned to receive the other two bulls on his knees, both dull, uncomfortable, with little strength in their guts, and Jiménez tried again in a performance with flashes of quality in some moments, but scribbled by disarms and hooks.

The bullfighters did not fail, but more, much more was expected from both of them. There was excitement, but no outburst.

Del Río/Fernando Adrián and Borja Jiménez

Bulls of Victoriano del Ríowell presented and attractive; They went with joy to the horses but none of them put up a brave fight except for the sixth; the first was well-cast, the second was very noble, and the rest were bland and outcast in the last third. The first three were applauded in the drag.

Fernando Adrian: low lunge (some whistles); lunge (silence); half a lunge _notice_ and two crazy things (ovation).

Borja Jimenez: puncture _notice_ lunge (return to the ring); puncture and half lying, madness _notice_ and two madness (silence); low lunge _notice_ (silence).

Plaza de las Ventas. October 5. Fifth celebration of the Autumn Fair. Full (21,412 spectators, according to the company).
