Kristen Wiig returns to sunny Palm Beach as Apple TV+ has renewed Palm Royale for a second season.

Palm Royale is loosely based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie and produced by Apple Studios. It’s a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) in 1969 as she tries to break into Palm Beach’s top club.

Armed with beautiful ensembles and accessories and her witty humor, Maxine tries to cross the line between the rich and the less fortunate. The dramedy asks the same question: How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?

“We’re so excited about the second season,” says executive producer Dern. “Jayme and I (with Jaywalker Pictures) have been dreaming about this project for so long in hopes that audiences will enjoy the radical journey that is the world of Palm Royale. We all can’t wait to get started.”

At Deadline’s Contenders TV event in April, Wiig shared more information about her character.

“Maxine is very ambitious and will stop at nothing to get what she wants, but the twist that she’s so sunny and positive when she does it makes you think, ‘Wait, I think I like her,'” she said. “We wanted to make her likable, even though he did things that weren’t so likable.”

The first season cast also includes Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy and Kaia Gerber. Bruce Dern and Carol Burnett guest star. The returning cast has not yet been announced.

Abe Sylvia is the writer, executive producer and showrunner of Palm Royale under his aunt Sylvia’s Moving Picture Company banner. In addition to Sylvia, executive producers include Dern, Wiig, Jayme Lemons for Jaywalker Pictures, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Tate Taylor and John Norris for Wyolah Films, Sharr White, Sheri Holman and Boat Rocker.
