American Psycho in London: Arty Froushan on playing Patrick Bateman

“A lot of people don’t realise that American Psycho is and always has been a satire,” he continues. “I think people think it’s like a sexy dark horror which has this very glamorous, alluring protagonist – but actually he’s an idiot. He’s a pathetic man who’s just trying to keep up with the Joneses. I just hope the satire is clear in our production, because a lot of women who I’ve spoken to are like, ‘Oh God, that’s just a man thing, American Psycho.’ Well, yes it is, but it’s a send up of the man thing. I think it’s useful part of that conversation.”
