The Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences announces the candidates for the awards of this 40th edition that will take place on February 28 in Barcelona

The race for the 2026 Goya Awards took a new step this Tuesday with the announcement of the nominees for the 40th edition. The actress Toni Acosta and the actor and producer Arturo Valls were in charge of revealing the candidates for the most important awards in the Spanish film industry, which will be awarded on February 28 in Barcelona. After 25 years, the film festival returns to the Catalan capital, this time at the Auditori Forum CCIB, in a ceremony in which titles such as Sundays, with 13 nominations or the acclaimed Sirât, con 11.
The list of most nominated feature films is followed by Maspalomas with nine; Dinner with eight; Deaf, The Captive y The tigers with seven; Pilgrimage with six; and City without sleep with five. In this edition of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, 218 Spanish films released between January 1 and December 31, 2025 were selected. Of these productions, 122 are fiction, 87 are documentaries and 9 are animation, while 67 are debut films. As for the scripts, 129 are original and 42 adapted. 18 European and 15 Ibero-American films also participated. The list of short films that may be nominated amounts to 48.
