A 70-year-old Japanese tourist died after falling from the seven-meter-high wall that surrounds the Pantheon in Rome, Italian firefighters reported this Saturday. The incident occurred at 9:50 p.m. on Friday, when the man fell from the wall at the back of the Pantheon, in Via della Palombella.

Firefighters, emergency service personnel and municipal police arrived at the scene, declaring him dead. Rescuers had to force a door on Via della Palombella, outside the Pantheon, to reach the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Italian press, the man was visiting Rome with his daughter, who told the police that she fell after suffering a sudden illness that caused her to lose her balance.

The Pantheon of Agrippa, a building from the Roman era, built in the 2nd century, and which attracts crowds of tourists every day for its imposing architecture, is bordered at the back by a wall that bridges the difference between its moat and the current ground level.
