The controversial Gelman collection and the brilliance of Goya and Velázquez will inaugurate Faro Santander in September

Modern Mexican art will share the spotlight with the great masters of European painting at the inauguration of Faro Santander. The new cultural center, located in the historic Pereda building in the Cantabrian capital, rehabilitated by architect David Chipperfield, will open its doors on September 8 with two large collections: the Gelman, one of the most important collections of Mexican art of the 20th century, with works by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, Orozco, Siqueiros and Gunther Gerzso, whose landing in Spain has raised controversy because it is Mexican cultural heritage; and a review of the corporate heritage of Banco Santander, with works by Tiziano, El Greco, Velázquez, Goya and Sorolla.
