‘No to war’: Alex Ollé brings to the present the tragedy of ‘The Persians’ in the mecca of Greco-Latin theater

Five thousand people applauding is to theater what a Bad Bunny concert is to contemporary popular music. “A hoot!” exclaims the Barcelona stage director Àlex Ollé. Co-founder of the veteran company La Fura dels Baus, with which he orchestrated one of the central shows of the opening of the Barcelona Olympic Games, Ollé is used to working for massive audiences and large opera coliseums, but these days, at 66 years old, he is enjoying like a kid with his debut in the ancient Greek theater of Syracuse, one of the largest performing venues of Antiquity and also of the present, before about 5,000 spectators who not only applaud at the end of the performance, but also during many moments of the performance. In the historic Sicilian city, theater is experienced as in the time of the Greeks.
