The Ministry of Culture promotes a “own room” for dance

“Dance already has its own room within the Ministry of Culture,” declared this morning Paz Santa Cecilia, director of the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM). And thus officially presented the Dance Diffusion Office (ODD), a new organization created to encourage and promote dance. The statement reflected visible joy in Santa Cecilia at being fulfilled one of the objectives of the long-awaited reform of the INAEM, which although it was officially announced in February 2025, has been suspected behind the scenes for decades. “Paz has reminded me from the beginning of the need for dance to stop being the poor sister of the arts. Also Getsemaní de San Marcos, which is part of my cabinet,” the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, later noted, who was the last to intervene and defined this ODD presentation as an “authentic milestone for dance, that’s how important it is.”
