Fresh from scooping Best Actor at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, Timothée Chalamet made his loyalties clear by choosing to attend the ceremony at The May Fair Hotel rather than the Grammys in Los Angeles, where he was also in the running for an award during the same weekend.
The decision felt quietly telling.
The 29-year-old actor, who moves seamlessly between Hollywood blockbusters and arthouse acclaim, appears increasingly drawn to life on this side of the Atlantic, with recent comments suggesting that Britain, and specifically the English countryside, is firmly on his radar.
Are the Cotswolds calling?
Chalamet has admitted that he is drawn to the charms of London’s glamorous commuter villages. While promoting his critically acclaimed film Marty Supreme on BBC Radio 2, he admitted he regularly falls asleep watching online house tours of the Cotswolds. He told presenter Scott Mills: “I go to sleep watching little house tours of the Cotswolds,” adding that the idea of rainy walks in wellies and hearty Sunday roasts holds a kind of comfort appeal.
Joking about place names, Chalamet quipped he could see himself in Chipping Norton, the Oxfordshire town beloved by the A-list set.

The Cotswolds have become a serious draw for celebrities seeking a rural retreat near London: historic stone cottages and barn conversions here typically range from about £2 million to well over £10 million, depending on the size, setting and period detail, with grander estates closer to £15 million or more. The region’s protected status as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty means that stone-built properties with original features, beamed interiors and views over rolling countryside command a premium.
Whether he ultimately takes the plunge and buys one of these honey-stone homes remains to be seen, but his love of the area places him among a cohort of stars who are putting the English countryside on the celebrity property map. With the likes of the Beckhams, Ellen DeGeneres, and Liam Gallagher as neighbours, Chalamet would be in suitably starry company.
An artsy childhood home in Hell’s Kitchen
Chalamet grew up in Manhattan Plaza, a landmark 46-storey apartment complex in Hell’s Kitchen that was built in 1977 as part of New York’s Mitchell-Lama subsidised housing programme, with around 70 per cent of units reserved for performing artists. The building’s mission is to provide affordable housing for people in the arts. It has been home to many famous people throughout the years, from Tennessee Williams to Alicia Keys.
Chalamet’s mother Nicole Flender is a dancer turned real estate agent for the Corcoran group, whilst his French father Marc Chalamet is a journalist and New York correspondent for Le Parisien. The couple still live in NYC and Chalamet visits when he is in town.
He has also rented apartments in the city. After a stint in the Bronx and shared flats in the East Village while pursuing acting, he moved into a one-bedroom Manhattan apartment on West 43rd Street in the summer of 2020. At roughly 1,000 sq ft and with rents in that Midtown pocket likely north of $4,000 (£2,900) per month, it was a decidedly grown-up first solo home.
Buying a sprawling Beverly Hills estate
Chalamet’s first major property purchase came in May 2022, when he acquired a classic East Coast traditional-style estate in Beverly Hills for about $11 million (£8 million), previously owned by model Kate Upton.

It was part of a lifestyle change that saw him leave Manhattan for Los Angeles. “I was living in this (New York) rental place that didn’t feel like home. I was getting the same bacon, egg, and cheese at the same deli. Resisting any lifestyle change,” he told GQ.
Upton and her basketball player husband Justin Verlander paid $5.3 million (£3.8 million) for the property in 2016. However, they had done extensive renovations before Chalamet snapped it up. Set on 1.5 acres, the 5,500 sq ft house has four bedrooms and five bathrooms.
Features include a formal living room with a fireplace, a chef’s kitchen with marble waterfall island and breakfast nook, a wood-panelled family room with vaulted ceilings, a wine cellar and a games room with a wet bar.
Outdoors, meticulously landscaped gardens, a plunge pool and Jacuzzi, and a championship-sized tennis court — which Chalamet has kitted out with a basketball hoop and ping-pong setup — extend the living space into the California sunshine.
His girlfriend of three years, Kylie Jenner, lives around a 40-minute drive away and recently listed her Holmby Hills home for an eye-watering $48 million (£35.4 million). She is currently renovating her dream mega mansion, which sits on a four-acre lot she purchased from Miley Cyrus in 2020 for $15 million. Sharing pictures of the major renovation project on her Instagram Stories she wrote, “house meetings are my fave.”
