Kenrex review: A true crime, high octane, extraordinary piece of work

Elliott, who looks like an escapee from a Nick Cave ensemble or possibly the Manson family, and is framed in a corner by banks of keyboards, drums and guitars, announces his presence with some deafening, thranging chords. His apocalyptic, yowling, swampy, country blues erupts periodically through the action like an expression of the fear and fury possessing Skidmore. A particular highlight is the Rawhide-style theme song he creates for Kenrex’s lawyer (“his pistol loaded with the law, he’s MCFADDEN!”), during which Holden rides a stars-and-stripes flagpole like a bronco, and mimes hitting a home run for each legal victory.
